On March 7, 2008, Senator and Presidential Candidate Barak Obama held a rally at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. The presence of open political discussion on campus throughout the week was enormous. Former President Bill Clinton was on campus on Thursday, March 6, 2008 and spoke at a much smaller venue, followed by Senator Obama’s appearance in the Cowboy State on Friday. The rally started at 7:15 pm and the doors were set to open at 5:00 pm, yet numerous students and members of the community were in line outside Arena Auditorium shortly after 3:00 pm.

Senator Obama followed Pistol Pete, UW mascot, into the Arena Auditorium. He “shock hands and kissed babies” as he made his way to the stage. Once on stage he opened with the University of Wyoming cheer, made popular by coach Joe Glenn, Powder River Let ‘R Buck, then joked with Pistol Pete about the secret service confiscating his guns. The speech lasted slightly over an hour and was attended by thousands of people. The UW Rocky Mountain Democrats have planned a march to the caucus on Saturday at 8:00 am.

Presidential hopeful, Barak Obama was warmly welcomed to and seems to have a large group of supporter in the Equality State of Wyoming.
